“Don’t tell anybody anything. If you do you start missing them”. This quote is in the last chapter of the book. Through out the book Holden was living in pain. In my opinion this quote tells the reality. When speak about someone you miss, and remember the good times you had together, you start to miss them. Even though you didn’t have any pleasant experiences with them, you may feel sympathetic about them. Specially, friends will influence a teenager to a greater extent. Once they miss their friends even for a short period they feel loneliness and isolation. Therefore, it is true that the teenagers, who remind about the previous friends, end up with miserable and lonely feelings. For example, I felt really miserable after leaving my country because I missed my friends. My life became a massacre until I found some new friends. The isolation is more prominent depending on the strength of the friendship.

“Goddam money. It always ends up making you blue as hell” is another quote from Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 15. Money always corrupts and does not buy happiness. In Holden’s experience it shows that he couldn’t spend his money on things that have bought relief for him. He couldn’t find a solution for his isolation. This fact is almost similar to our adolescent’s lives. Sometimes money makes the teen worse than ever. Teenagers can’t buy their happiness even though they are wealthy. If a person is unhappy, he/she tries to avoid other people and becomes isolated from the society. When someone looses all his money it makes the person isolate and even poor.
‘Red hunting hat’ symbolizes the uniqueness and individuality of Holden Caulfield in Catcher in the Rye. Every individual deserves to be unique. Uniqueness is a personal identity. In a teenager’s life, it can be slightly different. Teenagers conform to each other’s life styles. Fad and fashion can be great examples of conformity. By being different from others can result alienation, like Holden. Teenagers view a person differently who doesn’t go along with the new trends. Such a person may slowly isolate in the society purely due to uniformity.
“People always think something’s all true” is a quote from chapter two of the book “catcher in the Rye”. People will not explore the possibility of untruth if they adhere to total truthfulness. Especially teenagers may face unnecessary problems if they don’t identify the real situation of the environment and the society. Most teenagers live in their own lives. If they believe certain scenarios as true while the actual situation is the opposite they may end-up in troubles. Only few teens may inquire the both sides of the situation. These experiences can ruin their lives including family backgrounds, education etc. As a final result, they might be isolated from the society. In this paragraph, I discuss how the adolescent’s lives can lead to isolation if they do not think two sides of a situation.
“Life is a game boy. Life is a game that one plays according to the rules”. This is a quote from catcher in the Rye in chapter two. This quote is a good example for all teenagers. The worst mistake in a teenager’s life is the ignorance of rules. For example, students may skip classes to have fun. This can lead to unwanted consequences which eventually lead to incompletion of education and loosing their goals. If a person doesn’t receive a satisfying social status he/she would be isolated from the society. The theme that I selected is ‘alienation’, and in this paragraph I discuss how teenagers do not take life seriously and how it leads to alienation.
